Park History

Kraft Azalea Park was created in 1938. A famous plant expert named Martin Daetwyler was hired to design the garden. He was chosen by several important people from the area. These included George and Maud Kraft, who the park is named after.

This quiet park is about 5 acres big. It has eight benches where you can read, have a picnic, or just relax. There are also short walking trails. The park has a small dock where you can fish in Lake Maitland. Some common fish you might catch include largemouth bass, carp, bluegill, and tilapia.

The park is also home to the Exedra monument. This is a stone arch monument located right by the water. The park and its monument are popular spots for taking photos and even for weddings.

The park is right on Lake Maitland. It is filled with lovely plants, flowers, and big oak trees. Lake Maitland is the largest lake in the Winter Park Chain of Lakes. This chain includes six lakes: Lake Virginia, Lake Mizell, Lake Osceola, Lake Maitland, Lake Nina, and Lake Minnehaha. Kraft Azalea Park is near one of the canals that connect these lakes. From the park's small dock, you can see Dog Island, which is a popular place for families.
