The Krauatungalung are an Indigenous Australian group. They come from East Gippsland, a region in Victoria, Australia. They are often seen as part of the larger Kurnai nation. Some experts, like Norman Tindale, believed they were a separate group, even though they are often linked with the Kurnai people.

What's in a Name?

The name Krauatungalung has a special meaning. It comes from two words:

  • Krauat means 'east'.
  • -galung means 'of' or 'belonging to'.

So, Krauatungalung means 'people from the east'.

The Krauatungalung people also had their own name for themselves: Mukdhang. This name means 'good speech'.
