Kupartiya is a small Aboriginal community located in Western Australia. It is about 130 kilometers (80 miles) southeast of Fitzroy Crossing. This community is found in the Kimberley region. It is also part of the Shire of Halls Creek.
What is Native Title?
Native title is a special legal right. It recognizes that Aboriginal people have traditional ownership of their land. This ownership comes from their ancient laws and customs. The Kupartiya community is in an area where the Gooniyandi people have a native title claim. This means the Gooniyandi people have traditional rights to this land. The Native Title Act 1993 helps protect these important rights.
Planning for the Future
Every community needs a plan for how it will grow and develop. Kupartiya has a special plan called Layout Plan No.1. This plan helps decide where houses, roads, and other buildings will go. It follows rules set by the government. These rules are called State Planning Policy 3.2 Aboriginal Settlements. This policy helps make sure Aboriginal communities are well-planned. You can even find the draft map of this plan online.
