About Kyle O'Sullivan
Early Life and Education
Kyle O'Sullivan was born in Dublin, Ireland. He went to two universities in Dublin: Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin.
His Career as a Diplomat
Kyle O'Sullivan started working for the Irish government's Department of Foreign Affairs in 1993. Before that, he worked for a few years in Hong Kong.
Before becoming an ambassador, he was the Consular Director in Dublin. This job meant he helped Irish citizens who were traveling or living abroad. He has also worked in other important roles both in Ireland and in other countries.
Ambassador to Nigeria
From 2007 to 2010, Kyle O'Sullivan was Ireland's ambassador to Nigeria. This means he was the main representative for Ireland in Nigeria during those years.
Ambassador to Indonesia
In 2014, Kyle O'Sullivan became Ireland's first ambassador to Indonesia. He served in this role until 2018. When he left, Olivia Leslie took over as ambassador.
While he was ambassador to Indonesia, a big earthquake happened in 2018. Mr. O'Sullivan and his team worked to make sure all Irish people in the area, more than 50 of them, were safe and accounted for.
Ambassador to Israel
In 2019, Kyle O'Sullivan became Ireland's ambassador to Israel. He took over from Alison Kelly. On August 7, 2019, he officially presented his credentials to Israel's president, Reuven Rivlin. Presenting credentials is a formal way for an ambassador to show they are officially recognized by the host country. He finished his time as ambassador to Israel in November 2022, and Sonya McGuinness became the new ambassador.
