Kyuquot Sound is a beautiful area of water on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. It's like a maze of coastal inlets, bays, and islands.

Who Lives in Kyuquot Sound?

The name "Kyuquot Sound" comes from the Kyuquot people. They are an Indigenous group who have lived in this area for a very long time. They are part of the larger Nuu-chah-nulth peoples. Their main community is called Kyuquot. The Kyuquot/Cheklesahht First Nation is their local government. It is also a member of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council, which helps many Nuu-chah-nulth communities work together.

Exploring Kyuquot Sound's Geography

Kyuquot Sound is full of interesting places. It has many long "arms" of water that reach deep into Vancouver Island. You can find lots of islands within the sound. Some of the biggest islands are Union Island, Hohoae Island, Moketas Island, Whiteley Island, and Surprise Island.

There are also special protected areas here. Rugged Point Marine Provincial Park is located at the southern end of the sound. Tahsish-Kwois Provincial Park helps protect one of the northern arms of the sound. These parks help keep the natural beauty of the area safe.
