López is a small town in Argentina. It is located in the Santa Fe Province, which is like a state or region in Argentina. The town is part of the San Jerónimo Department, a smaller area within the province.

López is about 100 kilometers (about 62 miles) away from Santa Fe, the capital city of the province. The town was officially founded on May 20, 1896.

How Many People Live in López?

According to a count done in 2010 by INDEC (Argentina's national statistics office), López has 1,535 residents. This was a small increase from the 1,467 people counted in 2001.

Where is López Located?

López is the main town of its local area, known as a communal district. The total area of this district is about 13,000 hectares. A hectare is a way to measure land, and 13,000 hectares is a very large space!

López shares its borders with other towns and areas. To the north, it borders Santa Clara de la Buena Vista. To the east, it borders Loma Alta. And to the south, it borders Campo Piaggio and also Loma Alta.

Who Settled López?

The very first people who came to live in the area that became López were farmers. They rented land from a person named Mariano López, who the town is named after. Many of these early settlers were immigrants from the northern part of Italy, especially from a region called Piedmont.

In July 1887, the first official count of people in Santa Fe Province showed where the residents of López came from. It showed that many people were new to Argentina.

Sports in López

The main football (soccer) club in López is called the Club Argentino de López. This team plays in a local competition known as the Football League of Esperanza.
