The name "L-13" comes from a zeppelin. A zeppelin was a type of airship. This specific zeppelin, called L-13, dropped bombs over Clerkenwell in 1915. One of its bombs destroyed a building. This building was where L-13's art studio used to be. It was on Farringdon Road.

What Does L-13 Do?

L-13 sees itself as a creative place for artists. It's a home and a workshop for a small group of artists. Steve Lowe works with these artists. He helps them with their projects and supports their individual work.

Inside the L-13 Studio

The L-13 studio is also home to other cool things. It has the studio for artists like Harry Adams and STOT21stCplanB. It also has a special old printing press from 1825. L-13 creates all kinds of art projects. They publish books and make art prints. They also help turn big, sometimes tricky, artistic ideas into real things. They like to have a playful and challenging spirit in everything they do.

L-13's Location

The main L-13 headquarters is an underground space. It's located off Clerkenwell Road. This space used to be an art gallery where they showed exhibitions. Now, it's mainly used as a studio. Artists create their artworks and publications there. They also organize different art projects from this space.

When it was an exhibition space, one website described it. They said it was "Part swish contemporary gallery, part subversive socio-political vision, part artists' studio and part members' club."
