What's in a Name?

The name "L-13" comes from a zeppelin, which was a type of airship. In 1915, this particular zeppelin dropped bombs across Clerkenwell during World War I. One of these bombs destroyed the building where L-13's earlier studio used to be, on Farringdon Road.

What L-13 Does

L-13 describes itself as a special place for a small group of artists that Steve Lowe works with. It's a place where they can create, get support, and develop their ideas together.

The studio is also home to the Harry Adams / STOT21stCplanB / NOT Banksy art studio. It has an old printing press from 1825 called an Albion Press, a unique art tool called The Patented Finger of God Painting Machine, and a miniature poodle named The Beast.

L-13 creates many different art projects, both big and small. They publish books, make art prints, and produce other types of artwork. They help turn creative ideas into reality and like to encourage a fun, questioning spirit in everything they do.

The main L-13 studio is an underground space near Clerkenwell Road. It used to be a place where they held art shows. Now, it is mainly used as a studio where artists create their works and publications. It's also where they organize different art projects.

When it was an exhibition space, one website called it "Part cool modern gallery, part thought-provoking social art space, part artists' studio and part club for members."

The artists who work with L-13 include Jamie Reid, Billy Childish, Jimmy Cauty, Harry Adams, and STOT21stCplanB.
