LaGuardo is a small, unincorporated community located in Wilson County, Tennessee. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. You can find LaGuardo along Tennessee State Route 109. It has a few stores, a building for local utilities, and some churches.
The Story Behind LaGuardo's Name
The name LaGuardo actually means "watchdog." Long ago, people sometimes spelled the community's name as "Lagad" or "Lagado."
Around 1950, the center of LaGuardo moved about a mile southeast. This happened because Old Hickory Lake was being created by a dam. Also, Tennessee State Route 109 became a more important road, making the new location more central.
A Famous Fiddler from LaGuardo
One famous person connected to LaGuardo was Uncle Jimmy Thompson. He was a very well-known old-time fiddle player. He passed away on February 17, 1931.
