LaMar Lemmons Jr. was born on June 23, 1936, in Memphis, Tennessee. When he was about 14 years old, in 1950, his family moved to Detroit. He went to public schools in Detroit.

Later, he joined the Air Force. He served at Ashiya Air Force Base, which is in Japan. After his military service, he studied at the Detroit Institute of Technology.

Mr. Lemmons worked for the Ford Motor Company for a while. Then, he decided to start his own business called Lemmons Transportation.

He had four children. One of his children, LaMar Lemmons III, also became a politician. LaMar Lemmons Jr. passed away on November 7, 2023, when he was 87 years old.

LaMar Lemmons Jr. was a member of the Democratic Party. He ran for a seat in the Michigan State House of Representatives. This is where laws are made for the state of Michigan.
