LaMark Carter facts for kids
LaMark Carter (born August 23, 1970, in Shreveport, Louisiana) is an American former triple jump athlete. He was known for his amazing jumps, especially in the late 1990s and early 2000s. His best-ever triple jump was 17.44 m (57 ft 2.48917323 in), which he achieved in June 1998 in New Orleans.
LaMark Carter won silver medals at two big international events in 1999: the 1999 IAAF World Indoor Championships and the 1999 Pan American Games. He was also a three-time national champion in the triple jump at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, winning in 1998, 1999, and 2001.
He represented the USA at the Sydney Games in 2000. Before becoming a professional athlete, he went to Captain Shreve High School and competed for the Northwestern State Demons and Lady Demons in college. He still holds the triple jump record at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix event, with a jump of 16.93 m (55 ft 6.41043307 in) from 1998.
