LaToya Morgan's Career
LaToya Morgan started her career as a screenwriter. She joined a special workshop for writers at Warner Bros. Television Group. Her very first job was writing for the TV show Shameless on Showtime. After that, she wrote for other shows like Complications, Parenthood, and Turn: Washington's Spies.
Working with AMC
In 2016, LaToya Morgan signed a special agreement with AMC. This type of agreement is called an "overall deal." It means she would work mostly for AMC for several years. She worked as a writer and co-executive producer for the show Into the Badlands. She also wrote for the popular show The Walking Dead.
Morgan also helped AMC create a program to find and support new writers. This program aimed to help writers from different backgrounds. Through this program, she helped develop two new TV projects. She also worked with famous producer J.J. Abrams to create a crime drama called Duster. HBO Max ordered this show in 2020.
New Projects and Awards
In July 2020, LaToya Morgan signed another big deal. This time it was with Warner Brothers Television Group. She signed it through her own company, TinkerToys Productions. That same year, Morgan and Sue-Ellen Chitunya won an award. They won the Telling Our Stories short film competition for their film Team Marilyn. This competition was held by WrapWomen and Starz.
LaToya Morgan is also set to write the script for a new movie. It will be a reboot of the classic horror film series Night of the Living Dead. The movie will be directed by Nikyatu Jusu.
Helping Other Writers
In April 2019, LaToya Morgan started a helpful movement online. She created the hashtag #WGAStaffingBoost. This was to help writers from the WGA find jobs. It happened during a disagreement between the writers' union and talent agents.
Morgan has also written a graphic novel. Her first graphic novel is called Dark Blood. It was released in the fall of 2021 by Boom! Studios.
Personal Life
LaToya Morgan was born and grew up in Los Angeles, California. She still lives there today. She studied screenwriting at the American Film Institute Conservatory. She earned her master's degree in 2005.
