La Amistad is a special area called a district in Costa Rica. It is part of the Pérez Zeledón canton, which is located in the San José province.

History of La Amistad
La Amistad became its own district on December 5, 2014. Before this date, the land that now makes up La Amistad was part of two other districts. These were called Platanares and Pejibaye. The change happened because of an official government decision.
Geography and Location
La Amistad covers an area of about 76.11 square kilometers. This is roughly 29.39 square miles. The district is located about 780 meters (2,559 feet) above sea level. This means it is quite high up in the mountains.

When the 2011 census was taken, La Amistad did not exist as a separate district yet. Because of this, there is no specific population data for La Amistad from that census. The people living in this area at the time were counted as part of the Platanares and Pejibaye districts.
