La Chiripada Winery is a special place in Dixon, New Mexico, USA. It's a winery, which means it makes wine from grapes. Michael and Patrick Johnson started it in 1981. This winery has won many awards for its delicious wines. Some of these awards come from big events like the Southwest Wine Competition and the New Mexico State Fair Wine Competition.

La Chiripada Winery is also very unique because it's the highest commercial winery in the whole United States! It sits high up in the mountains, about 6,100 feet (1,859 meters) above sea level. If you visit, you can find their tasting room, called the La Chiripada Wine Shop, in the Taos Downtown Historic District on Bent Street. The winery is also a popular stop on the yearly Dixon Studio Tour. This tour happens in the fall and is the oldest art studio tour in Northern New Mexico.

History of La Chiripada

The Johnson family built La Chiripada Winery themselves in 1981. They used traditional adobe bricks, which are made from earth. The winery is located south of Taos, New Mexico. It sits in a beautiful area called the Rio Embudo Valley.

Growing Grapes and Making Wine

The vineyards at La Chiripada grow many grapes each year. They produce about 20 to 30 tons of grapes annually. From these grapes, La Chiripada makes many different kinds of wine. They create white wines, red wines, and other special wines too.
