La Union is a small community in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, United States. It is a special type of place called a census-designated place. This means it's an area that the government counts for population, but it's not officially a city or town.
In 2010, about 1,106 people lived there. A road called NM 182 helps connect La Union to another road, NM 28. La Union is also part of a larger area that includes El Paso, Texas and Las Cruces, New Mexico.
History
In 2021, La Union experienced very heavy rainfall. This caused huge floods, which were called a '1000-year flooding event'. This means it was a flood so big it's only expected to happen once every thousand years.
The severe flooding caused a dam to break. This damaged many things in the area, like roads and buildings. Because of this, the local county government and the Governor of New Mexico, Michelle Lujan Grisham, announced they would provide money. This money was used to fix the town's buildings and the dam.
