La Wally is a famous opera from Italy. An opera is like a play where people sing all their lines instead of speaking them! This opera has four parts, called "acts." It was written by a composer named Alfredo Catalani. The very first time La Wally was performed was in Milan, Italy, on March 28, 1896. The story for the opera, called the libretto, was written by Luigi Illica. La Wally was very popular when it first came out.

Wally: The Heroine

Vincenzo Gellner: The Rival

• Vincenzo Gellner is sung by a baritone. A baritone is a male singer whose voice is in the middle range, not as high as a tenor and not as low as a bass. Gellner is also in love with Wally, which creates some drama!

Stromminger: The Father

• Stromminger is sung by a bass. A bass is a male singer with the lowest voice. He is Wally's father.
