Labou is an exciting adventure movie that came out in 2009. It's an independent film, which means it was made outside of the big Hollywood studios. The movie was produced by Sheri Bryant and directed by Greg Aronowitz. You might know Greg Aronowitz from his work on Power Rangers S.P.D., where he directed many episodes!
Many actors from Power Rangers S.P.D. also star in Labou, like Chris Violette, Kelson Henderson, Barnie Duncan, and Monica May. This film has won several important awards, including "Best of Fest" at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival. It also won "Best Family Feature" at WorldFest 2008 Houston and "Best Feature" at the Bam Kids Film Festival in New York. Making the movie wasn't always easy! Production had to stop for a while because of Hurricane Katrina. This big hurricane hit New Orleans, where they were filming. The cast and crew had to leave and came back in early 2006 to finish the movie. At the end of the film, there's a special message dedicated to the people of New Orleans.
The Mayor of New Orleans at the time, Ray Nagin, even has a small role in the movie as the Mayor of New Orleans! Also, a famous jazz musician named Ellis Marsalis plays a wise character called the "Jazz Man." The amazing poster for the movie was designed by Drew Struzan, who is famous for creating posters for many well-known films.
What Is Labou About?
This movie tells the story of three friends who go on an amazing adventure. They are looking for the treasure of Captain LeRouge, whose ship was lost in the Louisiana bayou over 200 years ago. The bayou is a type of swampy wetland, common in Louisiana.
Instead of just finding treasure, they discover a magical swamp creature named Labou! People say Labou's unique whistles were the original inspiration for jazz music. With Labou's help, the kids must race against two tricky oil tycoons. They need to find the treasure in time to save the beautiful swamps from being destroyed.
