What it Looks Like

This plant is a type of shrub. It usually grows to be about 0.3 to 1.3 meters (about 1 to 4 feet) tall. Its leaves are rounded at the end. The small leaf-like parts near its flowers, called bracts, are covered in soft white hairs. The flowers themselves can be purple or white. You can usually see this plant flowering from June to November.

Where it Lives

Lachnostachys verbascifolia is found in several parts of Western Australia. It grows in areas like the Avon Wheatbelt, the Jarrah Forest, and the Murchison bioregion. It prefers to grow in sandy soils. You can often find it in places with lots of shrubs or in open woodlands.

How it Got its Name

This plant was first officially described in 1868. A famous botanist named Ferdinand von Mueller gave it its scientific name. He studied a plant sample that was found by another botanist, James Drummond, in Western Australia.
