Lady Mary Fane was born in 1639. Her father, Mildmay Fane, became the Earl of Westmorland in 1628. An Earl is a high-ranking noble title in Britain. Her mother, Mary, was the daughter of Horace Vere, 1st Baron Vere of Tilbury, another important noble. Mary's mother had been married before to Sir Roger Townshend.
Marriages and Life
Lady Mary Fane was married twice during her life.
First Marriage
Her first husband was Francis Palmes from a place called Ashwell, Rutland. Sadly, Francis passed away, and Lady Mary became a widow. They did not have any children together.
Second Marriage
On January 24, 1670, Lady Mary married for the second time. Her second husband was John Cecil, 4th Earl of Exeter (1628–1678). He was also a widower, meaning his first wife had passed away. His first wife was Lady Frances Manners, and they had two children together.
Lady Mary Fane passed away in 1681. She was buried in St Martin's Church, Stamford.
