Lake Buchanan is in the middle of the Gibson Desert. This desert is in the western part of Australia. The lake is northeast of another lake called Lake Carnegie. It is also just south of Lake Burnside. These lakes are often found in dry, flat areas.

The Gibson Desert is a very dry and hot place. It is one of Australia's many deserts. The land is mostly covered in red sand, small rocks, and spinifex grass. It does not get much rain.
