Lake Doré is a freshwater lake located in Ontario, Canada. It's found in the township of North Algona-Wilberforce, within Renfrew County. The lake is about 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) north of Eganville.

About Lake Doré

Lake Doré is quite large, stretching about 8 kilometers (5 miles) long and 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) wide. Even though it's wide, the lake is not super deep. Its deepest point is about 18 meters (59 feet).

Water flows into Lake Doré from a few different creeks. These include Black Creek and Spring Creek, which enter from the west side. Biedermans Creek flows into the lake from the north. The main river flowing out of Lake Doré is the Snake River. This river then joins the Muskrat River, which eventually flows into the big Ottawa River.

The lake has some interesting shapes with different sections. There are three main bays:

  • Millers Bay is located at the south end.
  • Smiths Bay is found in the southwest part.
  • Warrens Bay is in the southeast.

You'll also find two named points sticking out into the lake:

  • Church Point is in the southwest.
  • MacDonalds Point is in the northwest.

Nearby Communities

There are a couple of small communities right by Lake Doré. The community of Lake Dore is at the northeast tip of the lake. This is where the Snake River starts flowing out. Just a little to the south of the lake is another community called Letts Corners.

Getting Around

If you want to visit Lake Doré, Ontario Highway 41 runs right along the south shore of the lake. This makes it easy to access by car.

Fun at the Lake

Lake Doré is a popular spot for people who own cottages. It offers lots of chances for fun outdoor activities, especially on the water.

  • Boating: Many people enjoy taking their boats out on the lake.
  • Fishing: It's a great place for fishing! Anglers (that's what we call people who fish) can catch different types of fish here. You might find:
    • Large Mouth Bass
    • Small Mouth Bass
    • Northern Pike

There are three boat ramps around the lake, making it simple to launch a boat.

Lake Doré in Music

Lake Doré even has its own song! A famous musician named Mac Beattie wrote a song called "Lake Doré Waltz." Mac Beattie was the very first person to be added to the Ottawa Valley Country Music Hall of Fame. He performed this song with his band, "Mac Beattie And The Ottawa Valley Melodiers," after World War II.
