Lake Harris Campground is a fun place to go camping! It is located on Harris Lake in a town called Newcomb, New York. This campground is in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) runs it. You can visit from mid-May until early September.

Exploring Lake Harris Campground

This campground offers a great way to enjoy nature. It is managed by the DEC, which helps protect New York's environment. Lake Harris is about 275-acre (1.11 km2) in size. It flows into the famous Hudson River very close to where the river begins.

Fun on Harris Lake

Boating is a very popular activity here. You can even rent rowboats and canoes right at the campground! If you like fishing, you might catch walleye, northern pike, or different kinds of bass. Yellow perch are also found in the lake.

Adventures in Nature

There are many hiking trails nearby for you to explore. You can find trails in the Santanoni Preserve and the Vanderwhacker Wild Forest Area. Some trails even lead to the High Peaks Wilderness Area near Tahawus. You can also hike to the tops of Goodnow and Vanderwhacker Mountains. The Visitors Center in Newcomb has special nature trails too. There is a picnic area where you can eat, but the campground does not have a swimming beach.

A Bit of History

Near the campground, you can find a special monument. It remembers an important event involving Theodore Roosevelt. He was the Vice President of the United States. One night, he learned that President William McKinley had been shot. This news meant Roosevelt had to quickly travel to become the next President. The monument marks this historic moment.
