Lake Ini-To is a special artificial lake located in Molena, Georgia. It is part of the Boy Scouts of America camp, Camp Thunder. This camp is found on the Gerald I. Lawhorn Scouting Base. The lake is very important for the camp's activities.
The lake gets its water from two main sources. One is a natural spring called Thundering Spring. The other is a smaller pond known as Fishing Lake. After flowing through Lake Ini-To, the water then leaves. It flows into Spring Creek and several other small creeks nearby.
What Can You Do at Lake Ini-To?
Lake Ini-To is the main waterfront area for Camp Thunder. Many fun activities happen here.
- Swimming: Campers often enjoy swimming in the lake. It's a great way to cool off.
- Boating: Different kinds of boats are used on the lake. This includes canoes, kayaks, and rowboats.
- Fishing: Fishing is not allowed directly in Lake Ini-To. However, campers can enjoy catch and release fishing in the smaller Fishing Lake. This means you catch the fish, then let it go.
Why Is the Lake's Name Not Official?
The name "Lake Ini-To" is used by everyone in the area. It is also shown on maps of the camp. However, the name is not completely official. This is because it does not have an entry in the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS).
What is GNIS?
The GNIS is a special database. It keeps track of all official place names in the United States. This includes names for lakes, rivers, mountains, and cities. If a place is not in GNIS, its name is considered unofficial. Even so, "Lake Ini-To" is the name everyone knows and uses for this lake.
