Lake Jackson is a beautiful freshwater lake located right in the city of Sebring, Florida. Sebring is an important town in Highlands County. This large lake covers about 3,212 acres, which is like having over 2,400 football fields! While it can be as deep as 25 feet (about the height of a two-story building), much of the lake is quite shallow. Its waters are usually very clear, and its shores are sandy, making it a great place to visit.

Exploring Lake Jackson
Lake Jackson is a popular spot for many fun activities. You can find several places to launch boats, including a well-known public boat ramp at Veterans Beach on the west side of the lake. Many other boat ramps and beaches are privately owned.
Public Beaches and Fishing Spots
There are three public swimming beaches where you can cool off and enjoy the water. One is at Veterans Beach, located on the north side of the lake. Another is Hidden Beach, which is close to Faith Lutheran Church. The third is City Pier Beach, just west of downtown Sebring. City Pier Beach was closed for five years but happily reopened in 2013 and is still a busy public beach today.
Crescent Beach is a smaller community beach. It is found at the end of Crescent Drive, just off S.E. Lakeview Drive. If you enjoy fishing, there is a public fishing dock on the north side of the swimming beach, near the downtown area.
Lake Surroundings and Shape
Most of Lake Jackson's shoreline is surrounded by homes. A large apartment building called The Fountainhead stands on the east side. The only parts of the lake not surrounded by houses are the southwest side, which borders U.S. Highway 27, and an area in the north cove that has a big orange grove.
The lake itself is mostly round. However, it has a smaller, rounded area called the north cove. Lake Jackson is also connected to Little Lake Jackson by a short canal.
A Brief Name Change
At one point, Lake Jackson was briefly renamed Rex Beach Lake. This was done to honor a famous novelist named Rex Beach, who passed away in his home right on the lake. However, the new name did not last, and it soon went back to being called Lake Jackson.
