About Lake Muhlenberg
This lake gets its name from Muhlenberg College, which is very close by. The college itself was named after Henry Muhlenberg, an important leader of the Lutheran Church in the United States.
Lake Muhlenberg is part of Cedar Creek Park, which is a big park in Allentown. It's a great spot for fishing because the lake is 'stocked' with fish, meaning more fish are added for people to catch. It's also a safe home for many ducks and Canada geese. A stream called Cedar Creek flows into the lake and then out of it.
Sparkle Island and Wildlife
In the middle of Lake Muhlenberg, there's a small piece of land called Sparkle Island. In 2013, a group called the Lehigh Valley Audubon Society built a special 20-foot tall tower on the island. This tower is for chimney swift birds. It has special insulation to keep it from getting too hot, which helps protect the birds living inside.
Keeping the Lake Clean
In 2013, the lake was given a special cleaning treatment. This helped to remove too much algae that was growing there, making the lake look much nicer. The special chemicals used for cleaning were not harmful to the fish or other animals living in and around the lake.
Fun Events at the Lake
Lake Muhlenberg is also a place for fun community events. For example, a festival called "Blues, Brews, and Barbeque" started in 2014. It happens every year at Cedar Beach Park, right on the lake.
