About Lake Spring
Lake Spring is not a city or a town with its own local government. Instead, it is an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and people living together, but it's managed by the larger county government, which is Dent County in this case.
How Lake Spring Got Its Name
The community of Lake Spring was named after a special natural feature nearby. There's a pool of water in the area that is fed by a natural spring. A spring is a place where groundwater flows out of the ground. This natural "lake" from the spring gave the community its unique name.
A post office has been operating in Lake Spring for a very long time. It first opened its doors in 1856.
Nature Around Lake Spring
Even though Lake Spring is a small community, it's home to a lovely natural area. The Hyer Woods Conservation Area is located right within the Lake Spring community. This conservation area covers about 30 acres of land. It helps protect nature and gives people a chance to enjoy the outdoors.
