Lakepoint State Park is a super fun place for outdoor adventures in Alabama! It's located right on the edge of Eufaula, a city in Barbour County. This amazing state park covers about 1,220 acres of land.

The park sits on the western shore of Lake Eufaula. This huge lake is also known as Walter F. George Lake. It's actually a part of the Chattahoochee River and spans a massive 45,000 acres! The park is also next to the Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge, a special place for animals. The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources takes care of Lakepoint State Park.

Park History

Lakepoint State Park started in 1968. That's when the state bought 768 acres of land. This land was right on the shores of the Walter F. George Reservoir.

Later, in 1974, more cool things were added. A campground was built for people who love to camp. Also, day-use facilities were put in place. These are areas where visitors can enjoy the park for a day.

For many years, the park also had an 18-hole golf course. It was built in 1972. However, the golf course closed in November 2015. This happened because of money problems for state parks in Alabama. The state tried to find someone else to run the golf course. But, no one came forward to take over.

Things to Do and See

Lakepoint State Park has lots of exciting things for visitors! You can find a big convention center there. There's also a lodge with 101 rooms where you can stay.

If you love camping, there are 192 campsites available. The park also has cozy lakeside cottages. Plus, there are special cabins just for fishermen.

The park also features a marina for boats. You can cool off in the swimming pools. There are fun hiking trails to explore nature. And, you'll find nice picnicking areas for outdoor meals.
