Lakmé is a well-known French opera. An opera is like a play where people sing instead of speak. This opera has three parts, called acts. Léo Delibes wrote the music for Lakmé. It was first shown in Paris, France, on April 14, 1883. The story was written by Edmond Gondinet and Philippe Gille. It is based on a book called Le mariage de Loti. Lakmé was very popular right away. It is still one of the most loved French operas today.
