Lamira started in the middle of the 1800s. It was first known as Lewis' Mills. This name came from two people, Jacob and Ira Lewis, who built a mill there. A mill is a building where grain, like wheat or corn, is ground into flour.
A post office was opened in Lamira in 1850. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages for many years. It stayed open until 1967.
