History of Lattasburg
Lattasburg has an interesting past. It was first known by a different name: West Union. In 1851, the area was "platted," which means its streets and lots were officially mapped out and planned.
The name "Lattasburg" came later. It was chosen to honor an early settler named Ephraim Latta.
A post office opened in Lattasburg in 1867. At first, its name was spelled "Lattasburgh." However, in 1893, the spelling was changed to the simpler "Lattasburg." The post office served the community for many years before it finally closed in 1905.
