Laura, Missouri facts for kids
Laura is a small, quiet place in Lewis County, Missouri. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
History of Laura
The community of Laura was officially created, or "laid out," in 1893. This means people planned where the streets and buildings would go. Before that, in 1892, a post office was opened in Laura. A post office is where people send and receive letters and packages. This post office served the community for about 10 years, closing down in 1902.
It's a bit of a mystery why the community was named Laura. Over time, the reason and the person it was named after have been forgotten.
