Early Life and Education
Laura Antonelli was born in Pola, which was part of Italy at the time. Today, this city is called Pula and is in Croatia. After World War II, her family had to leave their home. They lived in refugee camps in Italy for a while. Later, they settled in Naples, where her father worked at a hospital.
As a child, Laura was interested in math. But when she was a teenager, she became very good at gymnastics. She once said that her parents wanted her to develop grace. She became skilled in rhythmic gymnastics, which is a type of dance.
Laura decided not to pursue a career in mathematics. Instead, she became a gymnastics instructor. She moved to Rome and taught gym classes at a high school. In Rome, she met people in the entertainment world. These connections helped her find jobs as a model.
Acting Career Highlights
Laura Antonelli started her career by appearing in Italian advertisements. One of her first jobs was for Coca-Cola. In 1965, she made her first movie appearance in Le sedicenni. However, her role was not officially listed.
Her first American movie was Dr. Goldfoot and the Girl Bombs in 1966. She then took on more roles. Her big breakthrough came in 1973 with the film Malizia. This movie made her very famous.
Laura Antonelli also worked in more serious films. She appeared in The Innocent (1976). This was the last film directed by the famous Luchino Visconti. In 1977, she starred in Wifemistress, a romance movie. Later, she was in Passione d'Amore (1981).
From 1986, she mainly worked on Italian TV shows. Her last movie role was in Malizia 2000 (1991), which was a sequel to her breakthrough film. After this, she stopped acting. In 1974, she won an important Italian film award, the Nastro d'Argento, for her role in Malizia.
Personal Life
Laura Antonelli was married to a publisher named Enrico Piacentini. They later divorced. From 1972 to 1980, she was in a relationship with the well-known actor Jean-Paul Belmondo.
Laura Antonelli passed away in Ladispoli, Italy, on June 22, 2015. She was 73 years old and died from a heart attack.
