Laura Bretan (born April 7, 2002) is a talented Romanian-American singer known for her powerful soprano voice. She became famous after winning Romania's Got Talent in 2016. Later that same year, she also impressed audiences and judges on America's Got Talent, where she finished in sixth place.

Early Life and Music Beginnings
Laura Bretan was born in Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. Her parents are from Romania. She started singing when she was just six years old. Her mother taught her how to sing. When she was eight, Laura began singing at the Elim Romanian Pentecostal Church. Her family is very involved with their church community in Chicago.
Rise to Fame on Talent Shows
In 2016, Laura Bretan became a household name in Romania. She won the sixth season of Romania's Got Talent. After this big win, Laura decided to try out for America's Got Talent. For her audition, she sang a famous opera song called "Nessun dorma". This song is from the opera Turandot by Giacomo Puccini.
All four judges, including Simon Cowell and Heidi Klum, gave her a standing ovation. Judge Mel B was so impressed that she pressed her golden buzzer. This meant Laura went straight to the quarterfinals of the competition.
Journey on America's Got Talent
Laura performed in the first live show on July 26, 2016. Her performance was loved by the audience, and she moved on to the semifinals. She gave another strong performance in the semifinals. Even though she didn't win the audience vote, the judges chose her to go to the finals.
In the finals, Laura sang "O mio babbino caro". This is another well-known opera song. The judges gave her excellent reviews. Heidi Klum told her, "Today you look like a princess, but tonight you rule the stage like a queen." Laura finished in sixth place overall in the competition.
Other Performances and Competitions
Laura continued to perform after America's Got Talent. In 2017, she sang "I Dreamed a Dream" in the finale of The Voice Kids Romania.
In December 2018, Laura was chosen as a semi-finalist for Selecția Națională. This is Romania's national competition to pick a song for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. She performed her song "Dear Father". She won the public vote but came third with the jury. Overall, she was the runner-up in the competition.
On September 15, 2023, Laura had a special performance. She sang the song "Adagio" with its original singer and writer, Lara Fabian. This was part of an anniversary concert for the famous musician Gheorghe Zamfir.
