Christian music facts for kids

Christian music is music made to share personal or shared beliefs about Christian life and faith. It often expresses praise, worship, asking for forgiveness, or sadness. This type of music is found all over the world and comes in many different forms.
One of the main ways Christian music is used is during church services or other gatherings. Most Christian music involves singing, either by everyone together or by a special group like a choir.
Just like other kinds of music, Christian music is created and performed for many reasons. It can be for fun, for religious events, or to share a positive message.
Music Styles
Since the late 1900s, especially in places like the United States where there are many evangelical churches, a type of music called Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) became popular. This music often sounds like pop rock and is made for listening at home or at concerts.
CCM includes many different styles, even though it's not a musical style itself. When a song is called "Christian," it's usually because of its lyrics and who wrote or performs it, not just how it sounds. So, you can find Christian songs that sound like Christian country music, Christian pop, Christian rock, Christian metal, Christian hip hop, and many other styles like salsa, reggae, or folk music.
Famous artists who have made Christian music include Bach, TobyMac, Phil Keaggy, Tenth Avenue North, and Hillsong.
How We Listen to Christian Music
Today, you can find Christian music almost everywhere. It's played on the radio, on TV, and on the internet. Christian albums and videos, like CDs, digital downloads, and DVDs, have become very popular and continue to sell well.

This is a page from Beethoven's famous Ninth Symphony. Long ago, Catholic monks helped create the first forms of modern Western musical notes. They did this to make sure church services sounded the same everywhere. This led to a huge amount of religious music being written over time, which also helped European classical music grow. The Baroque style, which included music, art, and buildings, was especially liked by the church after a big change called the Reformation. This style was exciting and emotional, meant to help people feel closer to God.
