Laura Cardoso (born Laurinda de Jesus Cardoso Balleroni on September 13, 1927) is a famous Brazilian actress. Many people consider her one of the best actresses in Brazil. She has starred in movies, plays, and TV shows.

A Look at Laura Cardoso's Life
Early Life and First Steps
Laura Cardoso was born in São Paulo, Brazil. Her parents were immigrants from Portugal. At first, her parents were not sure about her acting dreams. But when Laura was 15, she knew what she wanted to do. She started her acting career in radio soap operas at Radio Cosmos.
Starting Out in Television
Laura Cardoso began her TV career when she was still young. Her first TV show was Tribunal do Coração in 1952 on Tupi TV. She also acted in early telenovelas (Brazilian soap operas). These included Um Lugar ao Sol (1959) and Ídolo de Pano (1975). During this time, she also worked for other TV channels. These were TV Excelsior, RecordTV, and TV Cultura.
Joining Rede Globo
After focusing on theater for two years, Laura joined Globo in 1981. This is a very big TV network in Brazil. Her first show there was the telenovela Brilhante.
In 1982, she starred in Ninho de Serpente and Renúncia. These shows were on TV Bandeirantes. She then returned to Globo TV. There, she appeared in three telenovelas written by Walther Negrão. These were Pão-Pão, Beijo-Beijo (1983), Livre para Voar (1984), and Fera Radical (1988).
After that, she acted in Rainha da Sucata (1990) and Felicidade (1991). She also starred in three popular remakes of older telenovelas. These were Mulheres de Areia (1993) and A Viagem (1994).
Later Career Highlights
In 1995, Laura Cardoso appeared in Irmãos Coragem. She also starred in Explode Coração. This was the first telenovela filmed at Projac, now called Estúdios Globo. In 1998, she was in Vila Madalena.
After a short time at RecordTV in 2000, she returned to Globo. She starred in A Padroeira in 2001. She then played Madalena in Esperança (2002). In 2003, she was Carmen in Chocolate com Pimenta.
In 2005, she appeared in the mini-series Hoje É Dia de Maria. Laura also joined the cast of O Profeta (2006). She was in Duas Caras (2007). In Caminho das Índias (2009), she played an Indian character named Laksmi Ananda.
In 2010, she played Mariquita in Araguaia. In 2012, she starred as Dorotéia in the remake of Gabriela. This show was based on a famous novel by Jorge Amado.
In 2014, she appeared in three Globo productions. These included the TV series Segunda Dama and the telenovelas Império and Boogie Oogie. On April 26, 2024, Laura Cardoso received a special tribute. This was on the GloboPlay streaming service in Brazil.
