Laura Kamhuber (born August 8, 1999) is a talented Austrian singer. When she was just 13 years old, her amazing performance of Whitney Houston's song "I Will Always Love You" on the 2013 German The Voice Kids show became super popular. It's now the most-watched YouTube video by an Austrian artist! Laura has released three albums, sharing her music with fans around the world.
Laura's Musical Journey
Laura Kamhuber has always loved to sing. She first sang in public at age three, performing for her great-grandmother at a nursing home.
When she was ten, Laura started taking singing lessons at the Heidenreichstein music school. In April 2010, she joined the NÖN Talent Contest. She remembers being very nervous, but she still won second place! Later that year, at age eleven, she competed in Austria's Kiddy Contest and reached the finals, finishing third. After that, she kept taking lessons and often sang at concerts.
In 2012, Laura sang a folk song for the first time at a fundraiser and discovered she really liked that style of music. The same year, she made it to the semifinals of another Austrian talent show called Die große Chance on ORF. At 13, she was the youngest singer in the competition.
The Voice Kids Success
In 2013, Laura joined the German version of The Voice Kids. She made it to the "battles" stage of the show. Her "blind audition" performance of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" was a huge hit. In a blind audition, judges listen without seeing the singer and turn their chairs if they like the voice. All three judges turned for Laura! She chose to join Lena Meyer-Landrut's team. This video has been watched over 210 million times on YouTube (as of February 2021), making it the most-viewed YouTube video by an Austrian artist.
Because of The Voice Kids, people in the music business noticed Laura. A team was formed to help her, including composer Uwe Altenried and lyricists Peter and Gaby Wessely. They wrote her first song, "Wer Ordnung hält (...ist nur zu faul zum Suchen)". Soon after, she signed a record deal with Tyrolis Music. That same year, famous TV host Andy Borg invited her to sing her new song on the Austrian folk music show Musikantenstadl.
On January 2, 2014, Laura released her first album, Wie guat, dass i a Madl bin. It features 12 folk songs.
In 2015/2016, Laura's song "Stay Tonight" was considered for the Austrian national final for the Eurovision Song Contest. In December 2016, she released her second single, "Wunder".
In early 2017, Laura was named a youth ambassador for the UNESCO Club Austria's Gold Ribbon Campaign, called "Warriors and Angels." This campaign helps children with cancer. Later in 2017, she released her third album, Träume. This album includes different styles of music, from pop music to country and soulful ballads.
