Laura was the first woman to hold the important job of Political Editor at the BBC. She took on this role in July 2015. She reported on many big events, like the 2022 United Kingdom local elections. In May 2022, she stepped down from this role. Later, she became the host of the BBC's main weekend political interview show, which started in September 2022.

Before becoming Political Editor, Laura was the BBC's chief political correspondent. She also worked as the first Business Editor for ITV News. From 2014 to 2015, she was a chief correspondent for the BBC show Newsnight.

Reporting for the BBC

In 2009, Laura became the chief political correspondent for the BBC. She reported on news for BBC One and the BBC News channel. During the 2010 UK general election, she was seen so often on TV that a journalist even made up the term "Kuenssbergovision" to describe it!

Moving to ITV News

Laura then took on a new role as the business editor for ITV News. This was a new position created just for her. She also helped report on business news for ITV's current affairs show, Tonight.

Back to the BBC

In November 2013, it was announced that Laura would return to the BBC. She became a chief correspondent and a presenter for Newsnight. She started this role in February 2014.

Between the 2017 general election and Brexit in 2020, Laura also co-hosted the BBC's Brexitcast podcast. This was a popular show where she discussed Brexit news with other journalists. Later, this podcast was renamed Newscast.

On 11 December 2019, while reporting on the 2019 United Kingdom general election, Laura shared some information about early voting. This led to some discussion, but the BBC said no rules were broken, and she was cleared.
