Laura Patricia Spinadel was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on July 7, 1958. She is an Austrian Argentine architect, urban planner, writer, and teacher. She leads two companies in Vienna, Austria: BUSarchitektur and BOA büro für offensive aleatorik. Laura Spinadel is famous for her ideas about "Compact City" and her work on the "Campus WU". These projects are seen as early examples of "holistic architecture." This means designing buildings and cities in a way that considers everything, like people's well-being and the environment. She has also received an honorary doctorate degree.

Becoming an Architect and Teacher

Laura Spinadel studied architecture at the FADU University of Buenos Aires. She was a top student and received a Gold Medal Diploma. Her mother, Vera W. de Spinadel, was a famous mathematician from Argentina. Her father, Erico Spinadel, was an engineer from Austria who was an expert in wind energy.

In the mid-1980s, Laura Spinadel taught urban strategies at the University of Buenos Aires. She also helped manage international projects for the university. She has been a guest professor at many universities around the world. These include places in Colombia, Italy, Spain, India, Mexico, and Brazil.

Designing Buildings and Cities

Laura P. Spinadel's work focuses on creating complete and thoughtful designs. She believes in "holistic" architecture. This means she considers all parts of a project, even small details. She thinks about how buildings and spaces affect people's health and the environment.

Her designs aim to make open and closed spaces healthy. She also uses principles of "bio-construction." This is a way of building that is good for nature. Holistic thinking means looking at all factors, even those that seem hidden, like how people feel or their freedom in a space.

The Compact City

One of her big projects was the Compact City in Vienna, Austria (1995-2001). This project used layers and high-density buildings. It was designed to be a self-contained area. Laura Spinadel had to work with many different companies and public groups to make it happen. The final result was like a city built in layers.

Campus WU Master Plan

Another important project is the Master Plan for the Campus WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) in Vienna, Austria (2007-2015). This plan was very complex and changed over time. It involved many different ideas, designs, and ways of working. The Master Plan acts like a living guide for the campus. It helps connect all the different parts of the university.

New Ideas and Tools

Laura Spinadel is always looking for new ways to improve city planning. She wants to involve more people in designing cities. She is working on "Urban Menus," which is an interactive game. This game helps people create 3D cities together.

She has received awards for her innovative work. These include grants for creative industries and funding for new technology. Her "Urban Menus" project is even being studied for use in India.
