Lawing, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Lawing was once a small community, or "ghost town," located in Christian County, in the state of Missouri in the United States. Today, it no longer exists as a populated place.

Lawing was situated on a raised area called Logan Ridge. This ridge was on the southern edge of the Springfield Plateau, which is part of the larger Ozarks region. A road known as Missouri Route W now goes through the area where Lawing used to be. Another small community called Christian Center is about one mile north of Lawing's former location. The city of Ozark is about seven miles to the north-northwest.

A Brief History of Lawing

Lawing had a post office that helped people send and receive mail. This post office opened in 1898. It stayed open for nearly 20 years before closing its doors in 1917.

The community was named after an early settler in the area. His name was Billie Lawing, and he was a pioneer citizen. Pioneers were some of the first people to settle and build communities in new areas.
