LeRoy Hurd is an American basketball player who played professionally for many years. He was born on May 26, 1980. LeRoy is now retired from playing basketball.
LeRoy's Early Life and College Years
LeRoy Hurd grew up in Moss Point, Mississippi. He was a talented athlete at Moss Point High School. He played many different sports. A big growth spurt, where he grew five inches, helped him focus on basketball. This made a future in the sport possible for him.
After high school, LeRoy went to the University of Miami. He played basketball there for two years. Then, he transferred to the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA).
Becoming a College Basketball Star
At UTSA, LeRoy quickly became a key player. In his first year, he was named the Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year. This award goes to a new player who performs very well.
The 2003–2004 season was amazing for LeRoy. He was named the 2004 Southland Conference Most Valuable Player (MVP). This means he was the best player in the whole conference. He led the conference in scoring, averaging 19.4 points in each game. He also grabbed 8.2 rebounds per game.
LeRoy helped his team, UTSA, win big that year. They became the regular season champions of the Southland Conference. They also won the conference tournament. This success led them to play in the important NCAA tournament. LeRoy was also recognized as an honorable mention All-American. This is a special honor given to top college players. He was even named the Southland Conference Co-Player of the Decade for the 2000s.
Professional Basketball Career
After college, LeRoy Hurd was not chosen in the NBA draft. This is called going "undrafted." However, he still pursued a professional career. He started by playing briefly for the Columbus Riverdragons.
LeRoy then moved to play basketball in other countries. He played for many teams in Europe and the Middle East. Some of these teams included Sutor Basket Montegranaro, Teramo Basket, Solsonica Rieti, and Scavolini Pesaro. He also played for Anibal Zahle and Virtus Bologna.
In December 2014, LeRoy signed with a Romanian team. This team was called CSU Sibiu. He played for them until he retired from basketball in 2015.
