LeShawndra N. Price is an American psychologist. She studies mental health and how health differences affect various groups of people. Currently, she leads research training programs at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Her Education Journey
LeShawndra Price earned her first degree in psychology from Wake Forest University. Later, she went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There, she completed her master's and Ph.D. degrees in developmental psychology. In 2001, her Ph.D. paper looked at how well African American teenagers develop in both city and country areas.
Helping People Through Research
Dr. Price has worked at many places, including Duke University and George Washington University. She was a leader at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). In this role, she managed programs that helped scientists grow their research skills.
She worked to make sure that mental health needs were a top focus. Dr. Price especially helped women, people from different racial and ethnic groups, and those in rural areas. She also helped manage a big project to improve mental health care around the world. This project reached over 20 countries, including Brazil, India, and South Africa.
Dr. Price also helped create the "Mental Health Across the Lifespan Initiative." This project worked with Delta Sigma Theta to teach people about mental health. It covered topics like bullying, postpartum depression, and healthy aging.
Today, Dr. Price is the director of research training programs. She works at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
