Le Monstre (which means "The Monster" in French) is a super exciting wooden roller coaster located at La Ronde amusement park. You can find it in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. This amazing ride holds a special record: it's the biggest wooden roller coaster in all of Canada! It's also the tallest wooden roller coaster in the world that has two separate tracks.

Le Monstre stands really tall, about 39.9 meters (130.9 ft) high. This makes it the second-tallest roller coaster at La Ronde, right after another giant ride called Goliath. When you ride Le Monstre, you'll experience a thrilling first drop and exciting "airtime hills." These hills make you feel like you're floating out of your seat for a moment! The ride can reach a top speed of 59.7 miles per hour (96.1 km/h).

The Ride's History and Design

Le Monstre is unique because it has two tracks. The first track opened in 1985. But then, for the 1986 season, a second track was built! This second track doesn't just run next to the first one. Instead, it offers a slightly different path, giving riders a unique experience on each side. This makes it a "racing" coaster, even if the tracks aren't always side-by-side.

The ride was built by a company called Martin & Vleminckx. Over the years, the park has made some changes to the ride's seats. At one point, they tried new seats with safety belts. But riders preferred the classic lap bars, so those were brought back. Today, each row has one lap bar that holds you in. There's also a seatbelt that connects to the middle of the seat. This special setup lets you "float" a bit during those fun airtime moments. In 2013, brand new trains were added to the ride. These were made by Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters.

How to Ride Le Monstre

To ride Le Monstre, you need to be at least 1.32 m (52 in) tall. Each train on Le Monstre can hold 20 riders at once. Riders sit two people across in each row. There are five cars in total, with two rows per car. Le Monstre has four trains in total, with one train on each of its two tracks.
