How the Chenail is Formed

The main water source for Le Petit Chenail is the Saint-Louis River. This river flows in from the west. The Chenail then runs along the western side of Île du Domaine.

The northern part of the channel flows through a marshy area for about 1.7 kilometres (1.1 mi). This marsh connects it to the lower part of the Rivière Pot au Beurre.

Le Petit Chenail joins the Yamaska River at a specific point. This meeting spot is about 2.4 kilometres (1.5 mi) downstream from the Camille-Parenteau Bridge. This bridge carries Route 132. The Chenail also meets the Yamaska River about 3.7 kilometres (2.3 mi) upstream from the southern tip of Île Saint-Jean.
