The Leader Building is a tall, 15-story building in Downtown Cleveland, Ohio. It stands at the corner of Superior Avenue and East 6th Street. This historic building was finished in 1913. It is about 199 feet (61 meters) tall and has a large area of 322,600 square feet (29,970 square meters).

History of the Leader Building

The Leader Building was built by a businessman named Dan Hanna. He owned a newspaper called The Cleveland Leader. The building was made to be the home for this newspaper.

Design and Early Use

The building's outside is covered in limestone. It was designed by architect Charles Adams Platt. He used a style called Beaux-Arts. This style often features grand and fancy designs. Inside, the building had very nice materials.

Another newspaper, the Cleveland News, also owned by Dan Hanna, was in the building too. The Cleveland Leader newspaper stopped printing in 1917. But the News stayed in the building until 1926. The top floors were rented out as offices. Many lawyers liked to have their offices there. For 60 years, a restaurant called the Colonnade Cafeteria was in the building's basement.

Modern Changes to the Building

In 2014, a company called the K & D Group bought the Leader Building. They paid $5.4 million for it. At that time, the building was mostly offices. About 60% of the offices were rented.

Renovation and New Homes

The K & D Group announced exciting plans for the building. They wanted to change it into a "mixed-use" building. This means it would have different kinds of spaces. They planned to turn some parts of the building into apartments.

The renovations were finished in 2017. The company changed the top 12 floors into apartments. They named these new homes "the Residences at the Leader." The ground floor still has shops and businesses. The second and third floors are still used as offices.
