Leaf is a small community in Greene County, Mississippi, United States. It is also known as a census-designated place, which means it's an area identified by the census for statistical purposes.
Leaf is located near the Leaf River Wildlife Management Area. It is also within the eastern part of the De Soto National Forest. The community gets its name from the nearby Leaf River. In 2020, the census counted 62 people living in Leaf.

History of Leaf, Mississippi
Leaf was first settled in 1838. It was originally called "Salem." Many of the first families in this area came from Ireland, Scotland, or England. Some of these early families included the Thomsons, Cowarts, McKays, and McLeods.
Early Education in Salem
A school called Salem Academy was started by W.W. Thompson. It taught students between 1845 and 1862. Mr. Thompson later became the Superintendent of Education for Greene County.
Railroad and Lumber Industry
Leaf became a stop on the Mobile, Jackson and Kansas City Railroad. This railroad later became part of the Illinois Central Railroad.
In 1902, three business partners bought two sawmills in Leaf. They also bought carts, oxen, and wagons. They started a company called Thomson Brothers Lumber Company. Their mills could cut a lot of timber every day. They produced longleaf yellow pine wood.
In 1903, the company sold the sawmills and a large area of timber land. A man named William F. Green bought them. He ran the mill under the name W.F. Green Lumber Company. Sadly, the sawmill was destroyed by fire in 1906. It was rebuilt, but the company stopped working in 1909.
Leaf's Post Office
Leaf had its own post office for many years. It operated from 1874 until 1986.
