Learn with Sooty! was a fun British TV series for kids. It was part of the bigger show called The Sooty Show. This series helped children learn new things through exciting videos. It ran from 1989 to 1991.
The show featured three famous glove puppet characters: Sooty, Sweep, and Soo. They went on many playful adventures together. Matthew Corbett was the friendly presenter who guided everyone through the learning fun.

Sooty: The Magic Bear
Sooty is a quiet yellow bear. He is the main character of the show. Sooty has a special magic wand. When he says "Izzy wizzy, let's get busy!", his magic comes to life!
Sweep: The Squeaky Dog
Sweep is a grey dog who loves bones and sausages. He talks in funny squeaky sounds. Sweep often gets into silly situations, making everyone laugh.
Soo: The Calm Panda
Soo is a calm and smart female panda. She often wears a red skirt. Soo helps keep Sooty and Sweep in line. She is voiced by Brenda Longman.
Learning Adventures on VHS
Learn with Sooty! videos were released on VHS tapes in the UK. Each tape focused on a different topic to help kids learn.
Early Educational Releases (1989)
The first set of videos came out on 5 June 1989.
- Be Safe!: This video taught everyone about common dangers. It showed how to stay safe in different situations.
- Start to Read!: Sweep didn't know how to read. Matthew helped him learn in many fun ways.
- Have Fun with Numbers: Sweep also needed help with counting. So, everyone joined in to learn numbers together.
- Simple Science!: Later called How Things Work, this video showed the gang doing easy science experiments.
More Learning Fun (1990-1991)
New adventures were released in 1990 and 1991.
- A-Z of Animals!: Released on 10 September 1990, this video took Matthew, Sooty, Sweep, and Soo on a journey through animals for every letter of the alphabet. They used Sooty's magic transporter!
- Start to Read! 2: Also released on 10 September 1990, this video continued the reading journey. The gang made up stories and wrote thank you cards.
- Down on the Farm: Released on 4 February 1991, Matthew and Sooty visited Thorpe Farm. They learned many facts about farm animals. Sweep and Soo learned about farm animals at home through songs and rhymes.
- Have Fun with Numbers! 2: Also known as Multiplication and Times Tables, this video came out on 4 February 1991. Matthew taught Sooty, Sweep, and Soo their times tables using blocks and songs.
