Leigh Davenport's Life and Career

Leigh Davenport grew up in Chicago, Illinois. She went to Spelman College and earned her bachelor's degree there. After college, she moved to Harlem, New York. This is where she started her career in digital media and writing about entertainment.

In 2017, Leigh was working as an editorial director for a website called HelloBeautiful.com. She then decided to follow her dream of writing for TV and movies. Her first job as a writer was for the TV show Boomerang, which was based on a movie from 1992.

Leigh worked for ten years on a script that would become the TV series Run the World. She eventually sold this script. The show is about a group of Black women in their thirties who live and work in Harlem. Yvette Lee Bowser helped produce the series. Leigh based the show loosely on her own experiences living in New York for twelve years.

Many people have compared Run the World to other popular shows like Sex and the City and Living Single. This is because it focuses on strong friendships between women. The first season of Run the World was very popular and received great reviews. Because of its success, Starz decided to make more episodes in 2021.
