Early Life and Education
Leland Gantt was born and grew up in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. After finishing high school, he went to Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Later, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Point Park College. He found his passion for acting thanks to a theater teacher. In 1983, he moved to New York City to start his acting career.

After moving to New York, Leland Gantt began performing on Broadway. Broadway is famous for its amazing live plays. He appeared in many plays, including Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and Fences. He also acted in Richard III and Gem of the Ocean.
In 1991, Leland Gantt was nominated for a special award. It was the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play. This was for his performance in the play Let Me Live.
