The Lemon Daylily (scientific name: Hemerocallis lilioasphodelus) is a beautiful flowering plant. It is also known as the lemon lily or yellow daylily. This plant is part of the Hemerocallis family. You can find it growing naturally in China, and also in parts of Europe like northeastern Italy and Slovenia. The Lemon Daylily was one of the first types of daylilies used by gardeners to create new kinds of daylily plants.
Hemerocallis lilioasphodelus grows in large, spreading groups. Its long, green leaves can reach up to 75 centimeters (30 inches) in length. Each plant produces several flower stalks, called scapes. Each scape holds about 3 to 9 lovely, lemon-yellow flowers. These flowers have a sweet, pleasant smell.
Can You Eat It?
Did you know that the flowers of some daylilies are edible? This includes the Lemon Daylily! These flowers are used as an ingredient in both Chinese and Japanese cuisine. When dried, the flowers are sometimes called "golden needles." They add a unique flavor and texture to dishes.
