Léonie Antoinette Tonel (born April 20, 1828, died January 14, 1886) was a very talented French musician. She was known as a pianist and a composer. She wrote many beautiful pieces for the piano.

Léonie Tonel was first mentioned in the news in 1855. A newspaper called La Presse wrote about her. It said she would play the piano at the Paris Exposition. This was a big world fair. She played on an excellent piano from the A. Bord company. She performed on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Léonie Tonel showed great musical talent from a young age. She studied at the famous Paris Conservatory. This is a top music school in France. The judges there were so impressed by her skills. They gave her a special certificate without even making her take a competitive exam! This was a huge honor.

She composed many pieces for the piano. These included lovely waltzes, lively mazurkas, and calm nocturnes. She also wrote caprices, which are playful and free-form pieces. Some of her compositions were part of bigger music collections. Sometimes, her European and American publishers used different numbers for the same pieces. This was a small difference, but it showed how widely her music was shared.
