Leonor Oyarzún Ivanovic (born March 10, 1919 – died January 21, 2022) was an important Chilean public figure. She was known for her work helping families. She also served as the First Lady of Chile from 1990 to 1994. This was during the time her husband, Patricio Aylwin, was the President of Chile.

Early Life and Family

Leonor Oyarzún was born in 1919 in a city called Temuco, Chile. Her parents were Manuel Oyarzún Lorca and Ana Ivanović Roccatagliata.

She married Patricio Aylwin on September 29, 1948. They had five children together: Isabel, Miguel, José Antonio, Juan Francisco, and Mariana. One of their daughters, Mariana, later became the Education Minister in the government of Ricardo Lagos. Leonor Oyarzún also had 14 grandchildren. One of them is the well-known actress Paz Bascuñán.

Role as First Lady

When her husband became President in 1990, Leonor Oyarzún took on the role of First Lady. She used this position to help many people in Chile.

Helping Children in Need

In 1990, she changed an organization called Fundación Nacional de Ayuda a la Comunidad (FUNACO). She turned it into a new foundation named Integra. Integra's main goal was to help children who lived in extreme poverty. This organization worked to improve the lives of young children across Chile.

Supporting Women

The next year, in 1991, she started another important program. It was called the Programa de Promoción de la Mujer (PRODEMU). This program focused on helping and supporting women. It aimed to give women more opportunities and improve their lives.

Later Years

Leonor Oyarzún lived a long life. She celebrated her 100th birthday in March 2019. She passed away in Santiago, Chile, on January 21, 2022, at the age of 102.
